About three years ago, the 10 acre Falls School site was determined by the Fairfield-Suisun School District to be surplus property. This site happens to include the existing fire station and the community building. It was put up for sale and an investor/developer made a purchase offer contingent on his satisfaction that he could subdivide the property and develop his community supported vision of a 30 unit residential subdivision on about 9 acres, with about 1 acre, which includes the community building and fire station, donated to the Cordelia Fire District. He tried to work with GVLA, but encountered numerous specific requirements and failed to meet with surrounding property owners and accommodate their concerns. His offer expires on February 1, 2014. Apparently he has recently informed the School District that he will let his purchase agreement expire. The community, including "Friends of Fall School", an organization formed to oppose this proposed subdivision, has expressed determination for having a minimum one acre of the school site, which includes the Fire Station and the community building, granted to the Fire District; with reasonable planning involvement by and support of the neighbors for any subdivision plan. The next steps by the School District are presently unknown to GVLA.
